Men's Health Congress

According to Eurostat data, the average life expectancy of men in Poland is just over 74 years. Moreover, men in our country live shorter than women by as much as eight years. And although life expectancy in the world has increased in recent decades, it is difficult to speak of a satisfactory average in our case. Therefore, in this respect, we are ranked low - 29th out of 36 European countries covered by the research.
What do these statistics show? Why don't men care about their health?
Experts say that the average Pole still consumes alcohol and cigarettes too often, neglects physical activity and diet. They do not use periodic preventive examinations, are diagnosed late and are reluctant to undergo treatment. The data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland from 2020 shows that less than 5 percent of men underwent prostate tests. Admittedly, the 2016 result was also not impressive: 5.6 percent. This one example perfectly illustrates the attitude of men - fathers, sons, husbands, grandparents - to taking care of their own health.
Hypertension, coronary artery disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, hormonal and sexual problems are just some of the conditions that affect men in their prime. This means that they prematurely lose their health and full social activity, burdening not only themselves, but also the health care system and the economy with costs. Not to mention the social roles they face in a changing world, they pose ever greater challenges to their ambitions.
- For men, work, entertainment and friends are often more important than health. Illness is seen as a sign of weakness. She is seen badly at work. Men are ashamed to be sick, but they are also ashamed of taking care of their health. When a health problem occurs, men often disavow the thought that something might endanger their health. It's time to change it - says Iwona Schymalla, president of Żyjmy Zdrowo Foundation, organizer of the 1st Congress of Men's Health.
We invite you on September 28.
