Interest in participating in the council created under the Minister for Senior Citizenship Policy exceeded the expectations of the authors of the idea for its establishment. There were 30 seats to fill, and the number of applications exceeded 170. Minister Marzena Okła-Drewnowicz wants to involve those whose applications had to be rejected to create analogous councils at the regional level.

- When I opened the recruitment for the council, I thought that at most dozens of people would apply. To my great astonishment, 173 people applied for the council, and there were only 30 places. We must not lose the potential of all these people, but manage it together. We will create regional councils, which will bring together people who applied for the council created at my office, but did not find themselves in it," Minister for Senior Citizenship Policy Marzena Okła-Drewnowicz announced on Thursday.

Governors' plenipotentiaries for senior citizen policy have been invited to cooperate in the establishment of regional councils. They are to be the guardians of these bodies.

- We are doing this in order to create nationwide solutions to have networked representatives of senior policy and quickly consult projects and collect signals about problems," explained Marzena Okła-Drewnowicz.

As the minister stressed, senior policy is a huge challenge, but it can also be extremely rewarding. The condition is that it is implemented with the right people.

- Senior citizen policy must be one of the government's priorities, and it is. The state's activity must be based on two directions: supporting and activating," noted Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Monika Wielichowska.
